The origin of the film idea:
Morris got the inspiration for Four Lions while reading about Muslim terrorism’s history in a Very Serious Book that kept devolving into farce: for example, the Yemeni fanatics who piled deadly explosives high in a Suicide Boat which promptly sank. Or the terrorist who made it past a Saudi royal’s security by jamming the explosives up his posterior. When he pushed the button, though, he merely launched himself through the ceiling, leaving the prince unharmed and bemused.

The Package

There are not many elements of the package that particularly appeal to the audience as the distribution company is only small and there is a low budget for things such as cast and CGI.
One aspect that may appeal to the target audience could be that the distribution company is warp films and they are owned by time Warner which is a big film company. The niche audience may like 'Film 4' which is a British broadcasting film channel. this is another company linked to the production of this film; this suggests a 'British Audience'
The fact that the film won a BAFTA Film Award would be a big selling point because it means that the film was good enough to win an award.

Budget:
Niall Shamma was the head of finances for the film production.
Budget: £2.5 million Profit: £608,608 from just 115 screens (box office opening weekend figures)
The project was originally rejected by both the BBC and Channel 4 as being too controversial. Morris suggested in a mass email, titled "Funding Mentalism", that fans could contribute between £25 and £100 each to the production costs of the film and would appear as extras in return. Funding was secured in October 2008 from Film 4 Productions and Warp Films, with Mark Herbert producing. With some people willing to pay, the distribution companies were then willing to fund.

Filming began in Sheffield in May 2009. Because the film was filmed in an area which is well known by most people in the UK this made the film significantly more appealing as the 'British Audience' could relate. There is scenes of a large shopping centre that people in the local area may know and the fact that there are terrorists in the local area makes the film more appealing because it can intrigue the viewer.

Special Effects:
The visual effects generally do not go any further than explosives and fast hidden cuts to make deaths appear believable. The explosives make the film more believable too.
